Kuidas sündis tegevusraamat "Fofi seiklused"?

Portugali bioloog Mariana Anastácio saabus Eestisse, Tartusse ning tal polnud aimugi, et siin saab alguse tema salajane kirg - kirjutamine. Tema teadushariduslik taust ja varasem kogemus lastega töötamisel sai AHHAA inspireerivas keskkonnas ideaalseks aluseks lasteraamatu kirjutamisel.

90-ndatel sündinud Mariana oli alati elanud ookeani ääres asuvas väikelinnas, mis on tuntud dinosauruste poolest. Mingil hetkel oli aeg vastu võtta väljakutse välismaal ja nii saigi Tartust 9 kuuks tema kodulinn, kus ta vabatahtlikuna AHHAA teaduskeskuses tegutses.

Vabatahtliku töö projektist

Mariana osales Euroopa vabatahtliku teenistuse (osa Erasmus+ programmist) projektis „Õpi mänguliselt!“ ning oli 9 kuud vabatahtlik AHHAA teaduskeskuses.

Uskudes, et teadus ja teadmised peaksid olema kättesaadavad kõigile inimestele, köitis just see projekt tema tähelepanu. Selle aja jooksul ei täitnud ta mitte ainult igapäevaseid ülesandeid keskuses, vaid tal oli ka võimalus osaleda mitmetel üritustel, näiteks „Vilniuse Kultuuriöö“ ja „Teadlaste Öö Festival“, korraldada Portugali kultuuriõhtu ja kirjutada lasteraamat „Fofi seiklused“.

Lisaks professionaalsete oskuste arendamisele täiendas Mariana ka oma isiklikke ja kultuuridevahelisi suhteid. Välismaal elamise kogemus, kohtumine inimestega erinevatest riikidest ja reisimine suurendas tema kultuuriteadlikkust. Tartus elamine mõjutas tema projekti märkimisväärselt ja positiivselt. Erinevad kultuuriüritused, linna võluvad tänavad koos hubaste kohvikute ja pubidega ning üliõpilaste elav energia oli tuntav kõikjal, seetõttu armus Mariana linna atmosfääri.

Lõpuks toob Mariana selle kogemuse välja kui ühe kõige rikastavama ja meeldejäävama oma elus ning nüüd on tal õnn tunda end siin maailmas kahes kohas koduselt.  

Raamatust

Vastavuses AHHAA eesmärgiga tutvustada teadust läbi avastamisrõõmu on „Fofi seiklused“ laste tegevusraamat, mis on mõeldud lastele ja nende vanematele lõbusa kvaliteetaja veetmiseks, mille käigus tutvuvad nad teaduse ja AHHAA ekspositsiooniga läbi fantaasiamaailma.

Idee raamatu kirjutamiseks tekkis väga loomulikult, sest kirjutamine oli üks Mariana hobidest. Ta soovis oma Euroopa vabatahtliku teenistuse ajal välja töötada isikliku projekti, millel oleks mitmekülgne mõju – oleks tema jaoks nauditav ja rikastav ning tooks AHHAA teaduskeskusele midagi uut ja väärtuslikku.

See raamat sündis koostöös paljude andekate inimestega, kellega Mariana Eestis viibimise ajal tutvus. Nad olid abiks teksti redigeerimisel, illustratsioonide loomisel ja graafiliste kujundustega.

About the author

Mariana Anastácio, a Portuguese biologist, went to Tartu, Estonia, without having a clue she would embrace one of her passions – writing. Her science educational background and previous experience in working with kids, together with the inspiring environment at AHHAA Science Centre, seemed to be a promising formula to write a children’s book.

Born in the 90s, she had always lived in a small town next to the ocean and best known for dinosaurs. At some point, the time to answer the call for a challenging experience abroad arrived, so Tartu became her city for an exciting 9-month journey where she was volunteering at AHHAA Science Centre. Having come back to her hometown, when she has spare time, you might find her wandering around the beach, daydreaming about her next trip, near the oven trying out different baking recipes, or certainly, writing.

About the volunteering project

As a former participant in European Voluntary Service (part of the Erasmus+ programme) with the project “Learn Playfully!”, Mariana was a volunteer at AHHAA Science Centre for 9 months. Believing science and knowledge should be accessible to every person, this project particularly caught her attention, meeting AHHAA aim to introduce science to everyone with a “hands-on” approach. During this time, not only did she perform some of the daily tasks at the science centre, but she also had the chance to take part in some other events, such as “Vilnius Culture Night” and “Researcher’s Night Festival”, organize a Portuguese Cultural Evening and write a children’s book – The Adventures of Fofi.

Besides developing professional skills, Mariana also enhanced her personal and intercultural competences. The experience of living abroad, meeting people from different countries and travelling increased her cultural awareness, clarifying the meaning of inclusion and respect for diversity. Living in Tartu had a significant and positive impact on her project. With cultural events taking place all the time, its charming streets with cosy cafés and friendly pubs and the students’ lively energy felt everywhere, Mariana fell in love with the city’s atmosphere.

In the end, Mariana points out this experience as one of the most enriching and memorable of her life, and she is now lucky enough to feel at home in two places in the world.

About the book

Matching AHHAA’s purpose to introduce science through the joy of discovery, The Adventures of Fofi is a children’s activity book intended to give kids and their parents a fun family time, where they can learn more about science and some of AHHAA’s exhibits with a touch of fantasy.

The idea to write a book came up naturally as writing was already one of Mariana’s hobbies. She wanted to develop a personal project during her European Voluntary Service that would both be enjoyable and enriching for her and bring something new and valuable to AHHAA Science Centre as well. 

This book is the result of the collaboration of many talented people she met along her staying in Estonia, who helped her with text editing, illustrations and graphic design.
